 About the Book

This is not an easy book to read. It is the memoir of a Dutch Carmelite brother, Raphael Tihuis who was imprisoned at Dachau. It is a horrible story of torture, murder, starvation, medical experiments and death. More than 2,600 priests and religious were interred at Dachau. Most interesting to me was the account of the Carmelite priest Father Titus Brandsma and his 37 days at Dachau and the holiness of this man of God who gave such encouragement to so many before he was murdered by lethal injection. Fr. Brandsma was beatified in 1985. Raphael himself survived the camp. His account of the Americans arriving is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes. In fact, the whole book should be read with a box of tissues close at hand. Raphael himself did survive physically, but his mind continued to by tortured for the rest of his life. No human being should ever have to see and endure the things he endured. In spite of that, he felt that he had never felt so close to God as when he was in that camp. This book can be purchased through carmelites.info/publications
